French Revolution vs American Revolution

Did you know that the French beheaded their king and queen and formed a republic instead? The French Revolution was a series of massacres and the American Revolution was a protest against things the British were doing. There are many similarities and differences between the French and American Revolutions.

There are many similarities between the French and American Revolutions. For example, they both want to break free from an absolute ruler. The American colonies were ruled by the monarch of Britain and wanted to break free of British rule. The French wanted to break free from an absolute ruler as well. They beheaded their leader, Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette because of treason and also became a republic. They also both ended up with economic instability due to war debt. The American colonies experienced inflation and depreciation due to war debt and the French ended up in debt due to the Seven Years’ War. Another way the two revolutions are similar is that they both started because of enlightenment ideas. The American enlightenment ideas were freedom of speech, equality, freedom of press, and religious tolerance. In France, there were enlightenment ideas as well, which transformed the monarchy into a republic. The bourgeoisie, a French group of merchants, manufacturers, and professionals that had a lot of financial power but were excluded from political power, liked the ideas of John Locke. He said no king should have absolute power and liked the idea of a constitutional monarchy.

There are also many differences between the two revolutions. The French Revolution was about unfairness in terms of the way the government was run internally. They started out very violently. The American Revolution, however, was more about independence and wanting peace. The French Revolution was a protest for foreign colonial governments, while the American Revolution fought against their own government. The French Revolution was very violent, likewise, the Reign of Terror started. The Reign of Terror was a series of numerous masacres and executions that occurred due to accusations of treason. The American Revolution was more of a political battle and military struggle. It was also a protest that occurred because of Britain’s North American colonies opposing taxation without representation and wanting to be free of British rule.

In summary, the French and American Revolutions were both very similar, but still both were very different as well. The French Revolution was about unfairness in government and used lots of violence, and the American revolution was more like a protest against taxation without representation and freedom of British rule. Although they are very different, they are both very interesting and have very cool stories.
