Starting with basic information, Greenland is the world's 12th largest country... Right? Well yes and no Greenland is an autonomous region in the Kingdom of Denmark basically meaning it isn't technically a country it's more of a territory, however it still controls their own government and laws.
Population
Greenland is the world's largest island at 836,300 Square miles (or about 2,166,086 sq km) ; it's also the largest remaining piece of land in North America that is in the power of a European power. However with great size comes a small tiny population with about 56,000 people calling Greenland home, makes sense considering its so stinkin cold. In comparison, about 2 out of every 5 people live in the largest city and the capital city Nuuk, with a population of about 19,000 people.
History
Now in order to describe Greenlands geography we're gonna need to go through a little bit of history. In the 980's, The Vikings set off from Iceland to the south west coast of Greenland. They found the territory uninhabited. The leader of the group Erik the Red named the island Greenland. For a few centuries, The Vikings held on to Greenland . Then in 1380, The Vikings (by this point it was really the Kingdom of Norway) became under Danish (Denmark) Crown. For a few thousand years after that Greenland was a Danish colony until 1954 when the United Nations (UN) no longer perceived Greenland as a colony it was now a Danish county until 1979 when it attanited home rule, basically meaning it was now a full part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Geography
It's now time we talk about Greenland's actually pretty cool geography. The U.S. wants to buy Greenland even though this is pretty old news (i'm not gonna go through the story) it's still pretty important. You see as we know Greenland is cold so it's been pretty hard to start a civilization or industry like production on the icy island, however our world is starting to get warmer (a.k.a climate change) meaning all the ice is gonna start to melt.
Politics
It has been estimated that Greenland has huge amounts of oil and gas within its land, and thanks to climate change whoever owns Greenland will have the largest oil and gas industry in the world. But that's only 1 reason why Greenland is a strategic place to hold on to and why the U.S wants to buy it. thanks to the planet warming up, new access to the sea in the arctic is gonna be super strategic to hold on to. as explained in RealLifeLore "if the U.S owns Greenland, as well as Alaska on the other side, they will control the world's newest access to the A ocean, A starits, and A seas." In conclusion Greenland has an astonishing geography. It makes sense that it's cold right now, but when the planet warms up we will just have to wait and see.
